Mentioned by Byron in 1811-07-07, the last letter before returning to England, and the London Journal 20 March 1814. The modern village sits north of the ancient town of Crissa, a powerful city-state of ancient Greece which gave its name to the Crissaean plain and the Crissaen gulf, and lies in the southwestern foothills of Mount Parnassus.
